DSI group steps into revive now defunct Oddusuddan tile factory

Sampson Rajarata Tiles (Pvt.) Ltd which is a company under the umbrella of DSI group of companies has stepped into revive the Oddusuddan tile factory which is now in a run down state.

The Assistant Government Agent Oddusuddan, Thires Kumar said this factory which manufactures both roofing tiles and special large bricks was considered one of the best in Sri Lanka.

However during the LTTE terror period this was neglected and today the production is limited.

Tthe production process of the Oddusudan factory is to be re-launched  once again under restructuring of Ceylon Tile Corporation.

A decision has been taken to re –launch  all the factories that is not in operation, by restructuring Lanka Tile Cooperation under the purview of the Ministry of Industries and Supply Management as per the policy of re – initiating Public Enterprises mentioned in the government policy declaration.

Plans have been drawn to re –launch operations in the tile and brick manufacturing factory situated in Oddusudan in the district of Mullaithivu while it is expected to manufacture four hundred thousand (400,000) tiles and bricks per month from that factory.

Accordingly, approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted for the proposal submitted by the Minister of Industries and Supply Management for sustaining the sole ownership of the building and the machinery to Lanka Tiles Cooperation.

It will resume the operation of manufacturing tiles and bricks in conjunction with Sampson Rajarata Tiles (Pvt.) Ltd which is a company under the umbrella of DSI group of companies
