Ties between Sri Lanka and Switzerland further strengthened amidst producing Solar Energy

Ambassador of Switzerland Hunspeter Mock held a meeting with Power and Energy and Business Development Minister Ravi Karunanayake on a concrete solution to the energy crisis in Sri Lanka and the entire world.

The meeting was held recently at the Ministry of Power, Energy and Business Development and was attained to special matters important for the two countries over the crisis.

The Surya Bala Sangrama project successfully being implemented throughout the island was discussed in the conversations. Upon which, the Swiss Ambassador made special attention to Net Plus and Net Metering systems implemented in the project. 

The Ambassador further queried the subject Minister of the implementation of these systems and the benefits that follow to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the consumers. 

With the ever-growing population and technological advances, there is a significant increase in energy demand in the world, and therefore, demand of producing more power would be inevitable, to which a concrete solution must be made, Minister Karunanayake said in response. 

The Minister emphasized that Sri Lanka is now on the path to renewable energy sources and reached a significant level through renewable sources such as solar and wind.

The Surya Bala Sangrama project is successfully being implemented throughout the island, and is hoped for further expansion, the Minister added. 

The Switzerland Ambassador emphasized that Sri Lanka is ahead of the rest of the region in providing electricity. It is a great task of the government to pay special attention to the infrastructure of the people of a developing country like Sri Lanka, he added.

The Ambassador further said he has made a special focus over the solar and wind power generation in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's long standing ties with Switzerland would be strengthened with the focus on investing opportunities in the power sector, the Ambassador added.
