SLFP to contest the provincial council elections separately...?

It is reported that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has decided to contest the forthcoming provincial council elections separately from the SLPP.

Several rounds of discussions have been held in this regard in the last few weeks and it has been decided to contest separately due to the requests of the party.

Sources say that the SLFP is already preparing to contest the provincial council elections under the betel leaf mark of the United People's Freedom Alliance along with several other smaller parties.

It is reported that the grassroots membership of the SLFP is of the view that the Sri Lanka People's Front should not succumb to the displeasure of the people at present towards the SLPP and that the long term future aspirations of the party leader Maithripala Sirisena are in line with this.

As previously announced, Minister of State Dayasiri Jayasekara will step down from the Parliament and contest for the post of Chief Minister of the North Western Province, while Minister of State Duminda Dissanayake will run for the post of Chief Minister of the North Central Province following in the footsteps of his father Berty Primalal Dissanayake.
