Despite endless attempts by a number of parties to create conflicts within the Rajapaksa family, the Rajapaksa family cannot be torn down by conflicts, emphasised President Gotabaya Rajapaksa speaking to a rally held by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Provincial Council Forum two days (12) ago.
"We all know that President Mahinda Rajapaksa is an outstanding leader in the entire Asia, not just in our country. His familiarity, political maturity, knowledge and leadership, as I view, cannot be matched with. I believe it would be a great relief for me to continue this country whilst him leading this Party. In our road to victory, the critical factor was this character Mahinda Rajapaksa," the President said.
He added: "Also, we should be embracing without argument the fact that Mr. Basil Rajapaksa has established a situation in which a Party was created aiming a government and victory was achieved. Continuing a government with these two leaders would be very for me. Therefore, I am expecting both of these leaderships in the continuity of a government. It will happen as it is."
"To denote how politically matured President Mahinda Rajapaksa is, that he has never interfered in my work, nor in any of the appointments and commissions. I know too well that he has told a number of parties on a number of occasions that Gota should be let do this. Also, Mr. Basil Rajapaksa has never interfered me in any of the appointments or other work."
"As a leader with a near 60 years of experience in politics, a lot of people gather around him. I know that a door at Wijerama cannot be opened, because there is too much crowd; early in the morning. Because he is a person who has been doing politics for many years. A huge portion of the country knows him. They are coming to see him with much hopes. So, I know too well of the kind of difficulties he is facing," President Rajapaksa noted.
"But I boldly will be saying that we will be taking this country forward without any crisis. Because different people are trying to create crises. We are not a family in which such crises can be created," he further said.
In the event that a huge anti-Basil movement is being created in the country, Mr. Basil Rajapaksa is openly challenged by small parties of the Ruling Party led by the Wimal Weerawansa Faction. Weerawansa goes on saying that it was he who had paved the way for Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa to sit on the throne and that Mr. Basil Rajapaksa has nothing to do with it. By observation, the President's above sentiment could be interpreted as a fatal blow in the head against the Weerawansa Faction.
