Media reports centred its attention on the recently held clash between Minister Wimal Weerawansa and Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva, over the contradictory comments between the two on the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
Weerawansa has severely reprimanded De Silva at a workshop convened by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (09) on making ruling party members aware of the new constitutional adaptation.
Minister Mohammed Ali Sabry and SLPP Chairman Prof. G.L Peiris made remarks on the implementation of the 20A during the workshop, followed by a number of remarks opposed to the 20A made by several members of the ruling party as well.
According to sources, Minister De Silva had stood up and commented in favour of the 20A. Minister Weerawansa, on the other hand has stood up, furious, and burst out at De Silva, calling him a "scoundrel!"
Weerawansa has confronted that De Silva had expressed a contradictory stance on the 20A to him two days (08) ago, sources further said.
De Silva, who was highly critical of certain provisions of the 20A earlier, had said that it would be a disaster if it was to be passed in the same manner, Weerawansa divulged before the audience, according to sources.
De Silva, on this occassion, however, was acting in complete contradiction, praising the President on the 20A, Weerawansa pointed out rather heatedly.
