14th Match - IPL 2021 - Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Punjab Kings - (Chennai)
Sunrisers Hyderabad happily sailed to a comfortable nine wicket win over Punjab Kings in their IPL match in Chennai yesterday, after bowling their opponents out for 120 and hitting the required number of runs in 18.4 overs.
Opener Jonny Bairstow was declared as the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 63 made off 56 balls that included three fours and an equal number of sixes.
There was nothing that the Punjab Kings could do to defend their low total as Bairstow and David Warner (37) shared in an opening stand of 72 runs in 10 overs, before parting company.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Punjab Kings made very little headway with six of their batsmen unable to reach even double figures that included opener and captain K.L. Rahul.
The highest contribution to the innings did not go beyond 22 made by both Mayank Agarwal and Shahrukh Khan while Chris Gayle was trapped leg-before by wrist spinner Rashid Khan for 15.
In addition West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran was dismissed for the third time without scoring from four appearances, this time run-out for naught, unable to beat a throw from David Warner.
He did not face even a single delivery.
Left arm medium pace bowler Khaleel Ahamed was the most successful bowler for the Sunrisers claiming three for 21 off his four overs.
Punjab Kings 120 in 19.4 overs
Sunrises Hyderabad 121 for 1 in 18.4 overs (Jonny Bairstow 63 not out)
