The bodies of six more dead turtles have been dumped ashore on the Vankalaipadu beach in Mannar. Officers of the Vankalaipadu Naval Base discovered the bodies and the Naval Base authorities have informed the Mannar Wildlife Office in this regard.
Accordingly, the Wildlife officials inspected the spot and collected body parts of the dead turtles for clinical examination.
In the deterioration of the turtle bodies, the cause of their death could not be determined at first glance.
During the recent occasion, dead bodies of a number of sea creatures, including dolphins and turtles, had dumped ashore, following the blaze at the cargo Vessel MV X-Press Pearl near the Colombo Port. Government ministers, on the other hand, denied any connection between the incident and the deaths, arguing that the death of sea life is a common occurrence during the monsoon season.
