A group of residents from the Wanigasekara Place of Thalawakale participated on a protest yesterday (20) at the city centre claiming that the Towning and Housing project is at a risk of being landslided into the Upper Kotmale reservoir.
President of the Lindula Municipal Council at Thalawakale Mr. Ashoka Sepala said that the village is already being at breach of landslide into the reservoir from several places, because a protective side wall at the boundaries of the reservoir had not been constructed during when the Upper Kotmale reservoir was built.
Mr. Ashoka Sepala complains that despite of the fact that the reservoir was reinforced only with a couple of protective sidewalls during construction, neither of the documented and verbal notifications, made in regard to building a protective side wall near the reservoir boundary at the Towning and Housing project of Wanigasekara Place to the Director of the project then, has been responded so far.
Thalawakale city, Thalawakale Police, Muslim Mosque and Sinhala Primary School are located near the boundaries of the scheme, and this housing scheme consists of 85 houses.
President of the Lindula Municipal Coucil at Thalawakale Mr. Ashoka Sepala requests from the authorities of the Upper Kotmale hydroelectricity project to either replace the citizens of the Wanigasekara Place, who are at risk of landslide, into a secured place, or build a protective sidewall at the boundary of the reservoir adherent to the housing project.
