The people in Bingiriya yesterday (18) engaged in a protest against the Bingiriya police and government saying that they find it difficult to live due to increasing drugs consumption.

People from Weerapokuna, Puwakgahakadawala, Kiniyama, Puhulhenwetiya and Danwila participated in the protest; it was held in front of Weerapokuna weekly fair.

They said that they can’t even keep their food safely since a lot of youth in their villages have been addicted to use various kinds of drugs including heroine. They further said that they had to launch the protest since the police are protecting the drug traffickers and take no actions to control drug menace.

When several senior police officers of the Bingiriya Police Station, including its OIC, came to the venue of the protest, the protestors requested them to arrest the drug traffickers. If the police do not implement the law, we can do it, they added.

After the OIC requested the protestors to give him two months to control the drug trafficking in the area, the protestors dissolved the protest.
