Some of the Ruling Party MPs' confessions made before the public for backing a political stream that does not serve the people are but a deception, emphasised Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, speaking to the media upon his attentance to the Govi Hadagesma initiative held in Kokunnewa, Nochchiyagama, Anuradhapura today (10).
When the time comes, the 6.9 million people who were decieved by the current regime's false promises are now prepared to respond to them, Premadasa noted, reminding that the farming community has severely been aggrieved by the government's conduct.
The government had visited Anuradhapura during the last Presidential Election and promised to provide free fertiliser, but the promises that had been made before this holy land have now been broken, pushing hundred thousands of farming families to suffer, he reminded.
The Govi Hadagesma (Pulse of the Farmer) is an initiative undertaken by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) based on a concept by the Opposition Leader to explore the hassles faced by the farming community in Sri Lanka.
Prior to attending the event, the Opposition Leader obtained blessings from Chief Incumbent of Nochchiyagama Kokunnewa Raja Maha Vihara Venerable Milewe Swarnapala Thero.
Anuradhapura District MP Rohana Bandara, former Minister Chandrani Bandara, former Minister P. Harrison and a number of other SJB members joined the event.
