The large-scale mill owners' declaration of rice prices cannot be justified, said the State Ministry of Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection in a statement today (28), following the government's decision to remove the controlled prices set on rice.

The Ministry added in its statement that the gazette declaration on the controlled prices of rice was revoked in protecting the farmer and the consumer, adding that the government will take the necessary actions, is any attempt to gain advantage of this move being made.

Meanwhile, the government decided to import one hundred thousand metric tonnes of rice with the approval of the Cabinet and the Trade Ministry has taken necessary measures to import them and distribute to the consumers, the statement added.
