UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara says that the government is preparing to build 200 houses for new MPs while urging the people to tighten their belts in the face of the severe economic crisis in the country.
"When the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank are sabotaging and inflation is increasing in the country, the Prime Minister says to build 200 houses for the new MPs. . Those new MPs come to the media and tell the people to get used to eating two meals a day and not three. So in a little while, when they finish building their houses, they will tell people to get used to having only one meal a day.
People are being told to tighten their belts. Housing complexes are constructed for Parliamentarians who are elected to Parliament and steps are being taken to increase their facilities. As Queen Antoinette of Italy said to their citizens, our government had said ours to eat sand is there is no rice!."
Palitha Range Bandara stated this addressing a media briefing held yesterday (14).
