The Sri Lankan sports team that participated in the Tokyo Paralympic Games arrived in the island yesterday.
The team that participated in this year's tournament is the most successful team in the history of the Paralympics. Previously, Sri Lanka won one bronze medal each in 2012 and 2016 and this year the Sri Lankan athletes won one gold and one bronze medal.
Both medals were won in javelin throwing. Dinesh Priyantha, who competed in the F46 category, won the gold medal in the event. It was the first medal won by Sri Lanka in Paralympic history. He also set a world record in the event with a distance of 67.79 meters.
In addition, Dulan Kodithuwakku, who competed in the F64 category, won the bronze medal.
