It is reported that Prof. Rangika Halwatura, who was the Commissioner of the Inventors' Commission, has been removed from his post. He has been charged with illegal appointments and money laundering and he has been removed on the relevant charges

Rangika Halwatura is the youngest professor of engineering in the country and was a strong supporter of the Wiyatmaga.

Halwatura was first appointed Commissar of the Inventors' Commission in 2019 and was re-appointed by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in March 2020. This Commission is an institution belonging to the Ministry of State Minister Sita Arambepola.

Halwatura, who has obtained patents for 14 inventions, has also been awarded as the world's youngest scientist.
