Former Prime Minister, UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has emphasized the need to establish a long-term national policy framework that will last at least 20 years to overcome the country's economic crisis.
"We need to start with a program to control the coronavirus, so we need a medical advisory committee and an administrative committee to implement them, as other countries do. These decisions have to be made by the cabinet and the ministers.
We have no foreign exchange today. There is a difficult situation to get vaccinated. There is no fertilizer because there is no foreign exchange. There is no medicine. So the first thing we have to do is get a loan and get the essentials and start life again. We have to think long-term. We need to create a long-term national policy framework. It has to be an iron frame that no one can break. It should be made for about 20 years. We need to discuss how to include it in the constitution.
Secondly, we have to remove the 20th amendment and talk about a new constitution. According to our foreign policy, we are not prisoners of anyone. This government has turned us into beggars rather than prisoners. They have turned us into beggars who cannot pay the debts. So we have nowhere to go, ”he said.
Ranil Wickremesinghe said this while participating in an online political discussion yesterday (28).
