US President Joe Biden has decided to appoint Julie Chang as the next Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Julie Chang currently serves as the Acting Assistant Secretary of State for the United States Department of State.
If the US Senate approves the election of President Biden, Julie Chang will soon visit Sri Lanka as US Ambassador.
Born in South Korea, Julie Chang is an outstanding diplomat who can speak several languages, including English, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and Khmer, and previously served in US embassies in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, China, and Colombia.
The current US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Alina Abby Teplis, has been in office since November 1, 2018.
