The All Ceylon Poultry Traders Association warns that there is a possibility of a severe shortage of eggs and poultry in the next two to three months.
The President of the association Ajith Gunasekera stated that this situation will arise due to the lack of raw materials required for the production of poultry feed.
He said that the price of a kilo of local maize has gone up to Rs. 95 due to the complete ban on the import of maize.
He also said that small and medium scale poultry producers have been left stranded as only large scale entrepreneurs have the opportunity to import wheat used for poultry production.
