Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya, President of the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) says that if covid vaccination is given to people over the age of 60 in Sri Lanka, the number of deaths per day could be reduced by 90%.
"If we vaccinate people older than 60 years, the current death toll could be reduced by 90 percent. Now the average number of deaths is 40-50. This number will go down to less than 10 in about four weeks.
Everyone over the age of 18 should be vaccinated when given to economically important parts. The schools are now closed. Therefore, we have a request that the 300,000 teachers in Sri Lanka to be vaccinated by next month. There is an opportunity to open schools through that, ”he said.
Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya stated this addressing a media briefing held yesterday (11).
