Unconfirmed reports in the political arena claim that a change in the post of Prime Minister of Sri Lanka will be taking place in 2022, replacing Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa with Mr. Namal Rajapaksa, his eldest son.

The unconfirmed speculations also claim that Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa will either retire from politics, or a brand new post will be created in his name.

Namal, nevertheless, is common knowledge to the political conscience among the public that he is currently on a fast-paced political career, becoming the most active, popular, responsible and most powerful minister in the present government.

The eldest Rajapaksa son has already been placed on a number of interventions under the direct supervision of the President, including the anti-Covid operations, and the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister has had a number of opportunities to engage directly with the public, including the follow-up to the President's Discussion with the Village initiative.

Minister Namal Rajapaksa also oversees a number of District Coordinating Committee meetings, thereby proving his ability to work in high capacities.

On the other hand, the Post of State Minister of Digital Technology and Enterprise Development he was sworn in is likely to contribute to the success of the Colombo Port City Project in a significant portion. In the objective of making the Colombo Port City the country's economic turning point, it is also essential that a constantly evolving young leadership emerges, to troubleshoot the business affairs and expand new business trends and new technology.

Namal would be the only person in the current Sri Lankan government whose potential is meeting the requirement, a situation that should be viewed positively.

Namal Rajapaksa also has very good ties with the Chinese government. This was well proved when a direct-sharing conference was held between Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) the Ruling Party and the Chinese Communist Party under the patronage of Namal.

The fast pace in which Namal spearheads is not a coincidence. Recent media reports claimed that a special discussion was held between the senior members of the Rajapaska family a few months ago regarding the political affairs of the Rajapaksa family and that certain decisions were taken regarding Namal.

Conclusively, the probability to become the speculations in the political arena, which by observation have certain progressive elements, true could be high.
