The country's current situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic could be worse, said Prof. Neelika Malavige said speaking to a newspaper.
In the event that the number of positive cases reported on a daily basis has surged up to 2000 - 2500, the statistics presented might not be accurate, she revealed, adding that the entire country is observant on this matter.
Not every case is reported in the current program carried out, she emphasised.
"In fact, I have no data in this regard. I don't know how many PCR tests were carried out yesterday, if you ask me. I know the data that you already know. Nothing beyond that. But what I meant was that these tests cannot verify the actual number of patients in the country. A daily number of 2500 cases is found based on the tests carried out, isn't it? How many infected people that were not traced by tests are out there? I'm talking about them. Therefore, we have to think always that there could be more cases in this country than those recorded, which would be dangerous," she noted.
