It has been confirmed that a woman who has died while receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Hospital had contracted the covid 19 virus after her body was handed over to her relatives. Due to this the body which was handed over to the relatives has been taken back and cremated under the covid guidelines.
The woman has undergone a PCR test at the hospital and has died before the results could be obtained. A subsequent rapid antigen test confirmed that she was not infected with the virus and the hospital authorities took steps to release the body to relatives.
However, after the relatives took the body away, the results of the PCR test revealed that the woman had been infected with the covid 19 virus before she died.
It has been confirmed that a daughter and a cousin of the woman have been infected with the virus.
Several similar incidents have been reported in the past due to the delay in receiving PCR test results and it has been confirmed that some of the corpses were still infected after being taken to florists. This is a very dangerous condition and many more people are at risk of transmitting the virus through the corpses.
