The Maharagama Municipal Council met yesterday (06) and a heated situation arose at the meeting. Municipal Councilor Nishantha Wimalachandra was arrested by the Maharagama Police today (07) and remanded till the 10th of this month after being produced before the Gangodawila Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.

The councilor is having an altercation with Municipal Councilor Savithri Gunasekera and alleges that the councilor is behaving in a very shy manner and speaking obscenely to the councilors.

The clash that took place yesterday was also publicized in the media and this had attracted a lot of attention due to a clash between the ruling party MPs.

However, the police have informed the court today that the relevant Municipal Councilor has been charged in a number of incidents including assaulting two persons in the past as well.

The magistrate had strongly advised him not to fall victim to such offenses again.
