Minister Wimal Weerawansa and other party leaders had boycotted the meeting of party leaders representing the ruling party at Temple Trees yesterday (04). This is the second time they have boycotted the party leadership meeting.
The party leaders had convened a meeting to discuss the holding of the provincial council election and to take a final decision. Before the group including Wimal started the meeting he had gone to Temple Trees and met the Prime Minister and informed that his group would not participate in the party leadership meeting. Wimal's group says that the party leaders decided to boycott the meeting as a group of non-party leaders are scheduled to attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has decided to give another opportunity to Wimal and his group. Accordingly, a meeting of party leaders has been convened again on May 11 and Wimal and his group have been instructed to attend.
In addition to Wimal Weerawansa, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Leader of the Democratic Left Front Udaya Gammanpila, Leader of the Piwithuru Hela Urumaya, Leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party Prof. Tissa Vitarana, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka Specialist Dr. G. Weerasinghe, It is reported that ALM Athaulla, Tiran Alles, Asanka Navaratne and Athuraliye Rathana Thera did not attend the meeting.
