The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that certain strains of the virus could be transmitted through the air, said Professor Nilika Malavige of the Department of Antimicrobiology and Molecular Studies at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. She revealed this at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department today.
The World Health Organization has previously stated that the covid virus does not stay in the air. The virus, which comes out of an infected person's airway, can stay on any surface and can be transmitted to another person by touching that surface.
She points out that it is important to be more careful about wearing face masks as there is a risk of the virus being transmitted through the air and it is essential to use proper quality masks to protect against the virus.
In addition, newly diagnosed infections include people with symptoms and people with symptoms of different diseases, she said.
