PRESS RELEASE The Ambassador of the State of Palestine H.E. Dr. Zuhair M.H. Dar Zaid at thanks for formation of the Sri Lanka – Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Association on 20th April 2021, at the Parliamentary complex 

H.E. Dr. Zuhair M.H. Dar Zaid, Ambassador of the State of Palestine thanked for forming the Sri Lanka - Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Association on 20th April 2021, at the Parliamentary complex which was attended by Ministers, State Ministers and Members of Parliament, stating that “we appreciate the rule and the initiative from all the friends in parliament who took this as a committed duty. 

Palestine deeply appreciates and thanks Sri Lanka for the support extended across all the communities and all political parties in Sri Lanka., H.E. said that he was proud to serve in Sri Lanka, having the warmth and keen support of its people and Governments. Further Sri Lanka is united in its support of Palestine reflecting real internal unity in the political and public sphere. H.E. the Ambassador briefed them about the political situation in Palestine especially the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, which indicates that Israel is putting restrictions of free movement and obstacles, preventing Palestine holding their democratic right to parliamentary elections, detaining some of the candidates in the west bank and East Jerusalem. 

H.E. requested Sri Lanka to send observers for the election like other states that have expressed their will to do and the European Union requested permission for the observers the required entry but Israel denied them despite being asked several times. The Ambassador thanked the Hon Speaker, Hon. Prime Minister, Hon Leader of the opposition and Hon Members of Parliament for their support and sentiments expressed and extended his grateful thanks on behalf of Palestine to Dr. Suren Raghavan, M.P. the new Chairman and his able team, all success in their endeavors in keeping the close bond of friendship between Palestine and Sri Lanka and look forward to the close cooperation between the Embassy and of the Sri Lanka- Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Organization.
