13th Match - IPL 2021 - Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals - (Chennai)
Defending champions Mumbai Indians crashed to their second defeat from four matches this time at the hands of Delhi Capitals who won by six wickets in their IPL match at Chennai on Tuesday.
The Mumbai Indians were restricted to humiliating total of 137 for 9 that gave them no chance of making a comeback into contention as Delhi Capitals were not under any pressure to go for quick runs as they finished the contest with five deliveries and six wickets to spare.
Acting Mumbai Indians captain Keiron Pollard bowling the last over of the match conceded the winning run, through a waist high full toss against Shimron Hetmeyer who struck the previous ball to the cover fence, as the Delhi Capitals needed five runs off the final over.
Shikhar Dhawan once again led the charge for Delhi Capitals with 45 from 42 balls with five fours and one six, whilst Steven Smith chipped in with 33.
But it was leg-break bowler Amit Mishra who was the star of the day as he strangled the Mumbai Indians with a four-wicket haul after they won the toss and decided to bat first on what appeared to be a very slow pitch.
Among Mishra's victims were the power hitting Pollard who was trapped leg-before for just two runs, after the Mumbai Indians were at one stage well placed at 67 for 1 in 6.5 overs.
Mishra triggered the collapse by taking two wickets in three balls in the ninth over, when he had the scalps of top scorer Rohit Sharma for 44 and the dangerous Hardik Pandya in the first ball that he faced caught by Steven Smith.
Mishra also had the wicket of Ishan Kishan who was bowled for 28 to pocket the Player of the Match prize with figures of 4 for 24 from his four overs.
It appeared the Mumbai Indians suffered their first blow when explosive opener Quinton de Kock was caught behind by wicket keeper Rishabh Pant for 2 in the third over bowled by Marcus Stoinis.
Mumbai Indians 137 for 9 in 20 overs
Delhi Capitals 138 for 4 in 19.1 overs
