Slave Island Police have arrested Asela Sampath, the National Organiser of All Ceylon Restaurant Owners Association and the Convener of Public Rights Protection Movement, based on an open warrant issued in connection with a lawsuit filed on the allegation of interrupting duties of the officers from the Consumer Affairs Authority in Vauxhall Street, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana revealed.

Sampath, however, had sharply leveled criticism at a recent press conference regarding the Rs. 1000 relief package provided by SATHOSA, and Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena had openly stated in Parliament that he should be arrested over the comment.

The Trade Minister also commented outside Parliament that anyone criticising his Rs. 1000 relief package should be subject to arrest, adding that warrants have been issued in this regard and that a compensation of Rs. 500 million will be demanded over any act of contempt.
