The idea that former President Maithripala Sirisena should be found guilty of the Easter Sunday Massacre is strongly denied by Medagoda Abhayatissa Thero, a Buddhist monk loyal to Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) the Ruling Party, commenting with media yesterday (07).
"Through this report the present government holds no resonsibility for the attack, but a responsibility to implement actions. I saw an opinion about President Maithripala Sirisena in the newspapers that he should be found guilty for this attack. I strongly deny this. He might have been leveled for negligence by opinion, but the President had problems back then to the point in which he was unable to dismiss the IGP, as you might recall."
"We saw there was a 52-day regime. Mr. Mahinda was the Prime Minister for a few days. Then Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe became the Prime Minister again. So, I don't believe that Mr. Maithripala Sirisena had the audacity to protect the country, nor protect his own title," he said.
