The Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday terror attack has concluded its hearing yesterday (19).
Accordingly, evidence was taken from Umeer Mohammad, who is currently in custody, who had links with Saharan Hashim yesterday and it was not open to the media.
Shani Abeysekera, the then Director of the CID, who was remanded at the time, was also scheduled to testify yesterday, but did not appear before the Commission yesterday.
It is reported that Shani Abeysekera had informed the Commission yesterday that he could not appear before the court to give evidence as he had not been able to meet his lawyers due to his recent health condition.
Accordingly, the Commission has not informed him whether he will be called to give evidence at a future date or not.
The Presidential Commission of Inquiry was appointed in September 2019 under the powers of former President Maithripala Sirisena.
