The National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) has condemend the action taken by the OIC of Buttala Police over the the protest staged by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) at Buttala city for the protection of Freedom of Speech.

In the event that the campaign for the protection of Freedom of Speech undertaken by the SJB was successfully carried out in Colombo, Nattandiya, Hendala, Matara, Dikwella and Devinuwara without any obstacle, following a complete different set of laws over the campaign at Buttala city alone would be problematic, the NMSJ pointed out, raising suspicion whether the OIC of Buttala Police cannot tolerate anti-regime opinions of the public.

The Buttala Police OIC has misled the Judiciary by implying a situation only to Buttala Police Division, which does not apply to other areas of the country, indicating the practice of a goverment official who violates piblic rights, the Movement noted.

Accordingly, the NMSJ urged the authorities to immediately launch a probe into the OIC of Buttala Police Station in view of securing the rights of the people.
