’’President said he’s not into political vengeance,’’ Shehan responds to criticism over comments at Ampara

State Minister Shehan Semasinghe responded to criticism over President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's recent sentiments at Ampara, suggesting that MP Harin Fernando is not suitable for politics had he failed to understand the President's clear views on not taking political vengeance like the Good Governance Regime did.

He made this observation speaking to media yesterday (10).

"The President's comments meant that the country's curse was the team led by Harin, not our team led by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. So, if Harin Fernando finds it threatening, I think it is clear to us how afraid Harin Fernando is," Semasinghe said.

"See, this all comes at a time of the release of the report issued by the Commission appointed to probe the Easter Attack. Those who were involved in it, those who supported it and those who are still leading the opposition with the money received from the attackers are terrified today, because they do not know whose names will be revealed when the report is released."

He added: "Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Defence Secretary of this country had operated a humanitarian mission with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the time, and gave the right to life to 22 million people. He had never taken revenge even on a terrorist."

"Therefore, the President was clear that our government does not take vengeance - the Good Governance Regime had committed political vengeance - that we never taken political vengeance despite any allegations leveled against us. So, had Harin Fernando failed to understand the fact that political vengeance is not taken, he is not suitable for politics," the Minister further said.
