All schools at the Education Zone in Kalmunai have been closed.
The decision stands from tomorrow and the reopening may be declared within the next week, according to Eastern Provincial Governor Anuradha Yahampath.
The decision has been taken in quick response to the discovery of 21 Covid-19 cases in Ampara District.
Earlier, schools in the city limits of Kandy and Kilinochchi District were closed on a similar situation, while a number of schools in other areas have also been closed.
