The ruling party is preparing to appoint Mahindananda Aluthgamage as the Chairman of the Parliament Committee of Public Enterprises (CoPE), SJB MP Nalin Bandara disclosed, citing sources.
He made this observation speaking to a media briefing held by People's Opposition (Janathavaadi Wipakshaya) yesterday (21).
The CoPE would be gathering on the 22nd, Bandara reminded, adding that the Committee would comprise 14 members of the ruling party and 8 members of the opposition.
"We had this majority in 2015. But we never nominated a member of the ruling party for the chairmanship. This would be as if the fox is given the chicken barn (Nariyata Kukul Kotuwa Baara Denawa). We learned that either Mahindananda Aluthgamage, or Mahinda Amaraweera would be appointed as the new Chairman of the CoPE. Good luck with that!" the MP said.
In this context, the Opposition would be nominating their names for the position, Bandara went on, emphasising that the people would understand what the ruling party's plan is.
