Due to the heavy rainfall falling on the western slopes of the up country, the water level in the reservoirs in those areas has risen. Due to this the sluice gates of some reservoirs have to be opened.
As of last night, two automatic sluice gates of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir have been opened. The engineers in charge of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir are requesting the people on both sides of the Lower Kotmale Oya to be constantly vigilant as all the automatic sluice gates may open if the rains continue.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization has taken steps to issue landslide warnings affecting four districts. Accordingly, the warnings will be effective for Kalutara, Kegalle, Ratnapura and Nuwara Eliya districts.
