The police have decided to fully enforce the lane rules on four main roads entering the city of Colombo. Accordingly, it has been decided to impose a fine of Rs. 2000 on the drivers who violate the rules. Although the fine is due to be implemented from tomorrow, the police have decided to postpone it until next Monday.
The previous bus priority lane rule will come into effect again from last Monday and in addition to buses, motorcycles and three wheelers will also have to use the same lane. Despite the protests of the bus drivers, no decision has been taken yet to amend it.
As this is currently being implemented as a pilot project, drivers violating the lane rules will be warned until Friday and no fines will be imposed. The law will be fully implemented from next Monday and fines will be imposed on drivers who break the rules.
