Police Media Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne states that no definite decision has been taken so far regarding the removal of the security of the former MPs and Ministers who lost the General Election this time. He added that it could not be decided without an assessment of whether they should be given further protection.

The Police Media Spokesman states that the media reports that it has been decided to remove the security of 81 former Ministers and MPs are completely untrue.

Many former parliamentarians, including the former prime minister and former senior ministers, lost the opportunity to enter parliament this time.

A Member of Parliament is provided with four Security Officers and a Minister is assisted by a Chief Inspector of Police and eight Chief Police Officers.
