Ceylon Teachers' Union on June 23 disclosed in a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Education Service Committee of the Public Service Commission that Mrs. Sandamali Aviruppala, Principal of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, who is currently under an disciplinary inquiry in accordance with the charge sheet lodged by the Commission in connection to the enrollment of Grade 01 students, continues to serve in the interview board for enrolling Grade 01 students for 2021, thereby requesting to temporary suspend her duties in continuance with the disciplinary inquiry.

The Union said in a recent statement that in response to their disclosure, a letter, numbered ESC/GEN/01/09/2019, dated 07.07.2020, and addressed to the Secretary to the Ministry of Education has been forwarded by the Secretary of the Education Service Committee of the Public Service Commission.

Union Secretary Joseph Stalin emphasised on the matter saying that should a disciplinary inquiry be conducted against the said principal over the enrollment of students, a condition, by which her chairmanship of the interview board is questioned, should be imposed, and the letter forwarded by the Education Service Committee of the PSC requests observations from the Ministerial Secretary whether is it practical to appoint a replacement in the chair seat by dismissing her.

Accordingly, the Ceylon Teachers' Union will be requesting from the Ministerial Secretary in writing to hold an impartial inquiry on the Principal of Visakha Vidyalaya in compliance with immediate observations, thereby emphasising to serve justice over the matter, Stalin added.
