The government is set to provide a relief to electricity consumers who were affected by the COVID-19 crisis, by partly bearing the charges of electricity bills for March and April.
This has been informed by Transport, Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said on Wednesday (08).
Accordingly, the electricity bills surged during March and April as people were kept in homes amid Curfew will partly be paid by the government, in keeping with the Cabinet decisions made on Wednesday.
The Minister made this observation speaking at a press briefing held at the Ministry of Petroleum Industries.
Amaraweera added that the government decided to go beyond the recommendations made by the committee appointed to provide relief to consumers regarding electricity bills, as the report was tabled before the Cabinet yesterday.
