A group of senior police officials including deputy inspector generals have been referred to transfer based on service requirement as approved by the Police Commission and the Election Commission, Police HQ revealed.
Accordingly, DIG in charge of the Police Narcotics Bureau Sanjeewa Medawatta has been transferred to the Police Welfare Division, and Mr. G.K.J Aponsu has been appointed as the acting in charge of the Narcotics division.
Also, acting DIG S.P. Ranasinghe has been appointed as the DIG in charge of the North division of the Western Province and acting DIG U.K. Marambage has been appointed as the DIG of the State Intelligence Service.
Along with them are 12 DIGs, 05 senior Police Superintendents and 02 Assistant Police Superintendents who have been transferred.
These transfers have been given in the backdrop that only 33 days left for the 2020 General Election.
Since the proclamation of the Polls in March 02, many police officers were granted transfers, hindering the very meaning of the conduction of free and fair elections.
Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that either transfer has fully been approved by the Election Commission and the Police Commission.
