At the moment the government ought to be questioned on what happened to the funds received rather than Coronavirus, former prime minister and leader of United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe said. He made this observation speaking to the communication force meeting at Sirikotha Party HQ.
Wickremesinghe said that funds, according to his knowledge, have been received to Sri Lanka amounting to US$ 200 million, requesting the government to correct the figures if he is wrong, thereby urging them to reveal what happened to them.
As of the present, the second wave of Coronavirus is being spread across the world, and the measures taken so far are not enough to prevent such wave from ever being occurred in Sri Lanka, the UNP leader emphasised.
"More tests should be conducted because of this risk. Accordingly, testing and treasing should be done. Do not waste time by saying that there are not funds for this purpose. After the statement by the World Health Organization, I revealed that this country had received US$ 230 million. But the Health Minister had said that only US$ 1.9 million were received."
The funds in fact are not with the WHO, he went on, pointing out that in the circumstance in which the United States halted funding the WHO, funds were received from the World Bank, the European Union and several other countries.
