Move to launch strike action over selling of Port East Terminal

30 June 2020 10:32 am

A strike action is prepared to be launched by the employees of the Colombo Port in objection to the attempt of selling the East Terminal to a joint Japanese company.

The landing of the gentry cranes set for installation in the East Terminal is purposely being delayed by the authorities on the move to sell the terminal, the protesters alleged.

Accordingly, Chairman of Colombo Port branch of the Sri Lanka Free Workers' Association Prasanna Kalutarage told media that the strike action would be launched by Wednesday (01) should the authorities fail to initiate the installation of the gentry cranes within the next 24 hours.
