The members of the Election Commission on Wednesday (03) have decided to postpone on making a decision with regard to conducting the General Election till Monday (08).
This has been confirmed by the Chairman of the Commission addressing the media following conclusion of the discussion had with the members.
Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said that the guidelines issued by the health sectors would have to be studied prior to proclaiming the date for the conduction of the Polls, adding that these guidelines ought to be subject to discussion with district additional return officers.
Upon completion of the above steps, a date for the conduction of the General Election may be proclaimed, as agreed by the members of the Commission.
However, Mr. Deshapriya on an early occasion had said that a minimum period of 09 weeks may be required for the conduction of the Election.
