The Election Commission is due to take a decision on the date of the general election tomorrow.
The Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice, decided to reject the petition filed before the Supreme Court challenging the gazette notifications on the dissolution of parliament and the June 20 elections. The petitions were considered for 10 days.
Accordingly, printing of ballot papers will commence today.
Following the Supreme Court decision, the Elections Commission had earlier notified the Government Printing Office of printing of ballot papers.
The decision was made by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya with the concurrence of a five-member Supreme Court Bench comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Buwaneka Aluvihare, Sisira De Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena and Vijith Malalgoda.
