The quarantine act, as well as the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), allows both cremation and burial as disposal methods of deceased patients due to COVID-19, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) revealed.

Writing to Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe on Friday (03), the GMOA stated that they raise concerns on the possibility of allowing the bodies to be disposed on the same manner, with pertaining to the recent conversation developing arguments, thereby urging him that the final authority on the issue lies with him.

Hence the GMOA suggests the director general to consult a team of experts on relevant areas such as public health, virology, judicial medicine, legal and soil analysis, prior to making a decision on the matter.
