Basil Rajapaksa’s Divi Naguma Case to be heard 6th August onwards

A date has been set for the hearing of the case filed against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Colombo High Court for misappropriation of funds of the Divi Naguma Fund. The case will be heard from August 06.

The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Dhammika Ganepala today.

The case has been filed on charges of misusing nearly Rs. 36 million belonging to the Divi Naguma Fund for the election campaign of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the 2015 Presidential Election. Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and former Director of the Divineguma Development Department Kithsiri Ranawaka have been named as respondents in the case.

When the case was taken up today, the defense attorneys requested that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) be given copies of statements from some witnesses. Accordingly, the Director of the CID was ordered to provide copies of these statements.

The case was adjourned until August 06 and the High Court judge ordered the hearing of the evidence on that day.
