High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelette has called on the Government of Sri Lanka to implement the UNHRC Resolution 30/1 to promote a peaceful society and sustainable development.
This is stated in a report submitted by the High Commissioner before the 43rd Session of the Government. The 43rd Session will be held from February 24 to March 20.
Sri Lanka has made some progress in the areas of reconciliation, accountability and human rights promotion, but has failed to fulfill many other factors.
The report states that the Government of Sri Lanka should focus on reviewing the Prevention of Terrorism Act and repealing the Act.
However, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has officially decided to withdraw from the co-sponsorship of the 30/1 resolution.
