If the salary anomalies of the teachers and principals are not resolved by making the post of teacher a closed service as promised by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, an islandwide strike action would be launched on February 26, Ceylon Teachers' Association stated.

"Current President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his election manifesto sworn to make the post of teacher a closed service in order to remove salary anomalies. To this day it has not been fulfilled by the ministry's side.

We informed the Education Ministry verbally on 21st and in written on 22nd that we may proceed for trade union actions if the relevant circular is not issued before February 03. We would be conducting a mass demonstration in front of the Colombo Fort Railway Station tomorrow.

We have also prepared to launch a one-day strike action by involving all schools in the country on February 26," association secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe said, speaking at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday (13).
