In a dramatic turn of events, United National Front (UNF) leaders have agreed to support the new political alliance headed by United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa.
UNF member and Tamil Progressive Alliance leader Mano Ganesan disclosed that the UNF leaders met today Saturday 18 at the office of the Leader of the Opposition and unanimously decided to form an alliance headed by Premadasa.
He said the UNF leaders also decided to involve all alliance partners including the UNP.
Ganesan said that Premadasa and party leaders Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rauff Hakeem, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and Palany Thigambaram participated in the meeting.
Mano Ganesan said that the UNF leaders also decided to have talks with UNP member and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and seek his support for the new alliance.
A media mogul has already stepped in to extend his fullest support and sponsorship to the proposed new alliance for the future election campaign and party organisational activities.
He has also agreed to provide financial assistance for party organisation while providing necessary building and office facilities to carry out countrywide election campaign in an unprecedented manner.
A special media campaign along with social media propaganda activities will be carried out to boost the image of the leader of the allaiance Sajith Premadasa with the support of the media mogul.
As a preliminary step towards this end, a political programme presenter of a state media institution and and a film director have been enrolled by him to initiate the media publicity campaign.
