Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said unlike how the presidential election was concluded successfully, conducting the general election would be not easy, pointing out that it would be a great challenge to the commission.
Only a handful of contestants appeared in active politics in the presidential election, Deshapriya said, adding that a general election is accounted for thousands of contestants who are engaged in politics as a profession. Despite the ridicule, politics are work of experienced professionals, he added.
Preferential system is a troublemaker even for members of the same party, the Election Commission Chairman pointed out.
Accordingly, the level of burden put on the commission would be unimaginable, he emphasized, urging the public and the contestants to be helpful in easing the pressure.
