Political anomaly within government amidst Ranjan’s Voice Tapes - Who’s next?

A group of political figures in the governing party who toasted over the exposure of MP Ranjan Ramanayake's voice tapes have been shaken in the latest circumstances, sources divulged.

This was because some of the supposedly leaked voice tapes contain information on former President Maithripala Sirisena and Mr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa.

The Political Anomaly

Government figures over the last week spent rejoicing themselves over the exposure of MP Ranjan Ramanayake's voice tapes regardless of who leaked them and who owns the unedited audio repository, as the government, as if by miracle, was given an ultimate weapon to destroy the opposition party until the upcoming election.

However, these tapes were received to only a limited number of figures in the government, and there are at least 127,000, or even more, unedited voice tapes in existence, and they have chosen themselves to leak only a selected number of the tapes, according to their own clarification.

The governing figures amidst the exposure of "RanjaGate" (resemblance to Watergate Nixon White House Tapes) voice tapes spent a week of blissfulness believing that none would bring harm to their own private circles. However, the situation has been changed, as tapes containing information on former President Maithripala Sirisena and Mr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa are also being circulated on social media now.

The former president was a co-leader of the SLFP - SLPP coalition and is expecting to contest the upcoming election dreaming for a bigger position in the government. MOUs were signed for the proposed coalition between the parties long before the 2019 presidential election. He also is the person who formed a coup together with the SLPP in 2018. There is supposedly evidence being circulated on social media divulging how he and his son influenced the Police, supposedly extracted from MP Ranjan Ramanayake's voice tapes.

Wijedasa Rajapakse is also a powerful front figure in SLPP politics and a legal adviser who has even drafted two new amendments to the Constitution on behalf of the President. There is supposedly evidence being circulated on social media since Wednesday (07) night divulging properties belonging to him and how he defrauded a businessman who helped him long ago, supposedly extracted from MP Ranjan Ramanayake's tapes.

Accordingly, these tapes were selectively leaked on purpose by a group of figures in the government itself, spawning an anomaly within the governing party as the faction with the original tapes and the faction without, political analysts pointed out.

Who is next?

Given the propagation and the advertising to these tapes, people have begun to believe what they listen, despite authenticity. Accordingly, the supposedly RanjaGate tapes may stand God reshaping all the political solutions of the future, according to analysts.

If one believes that these tapes contain information disadvantageous to only the United National Party, that may not be the case at all. These supposedly tapes have already begun to throw knives at a governor and a figurative Buddhist monk in the governing party. Whoever was about to be exposed in the next tape, he or she would have to face a tough time contesting the upcoming election.

The situation therefore has created a panic among the ministers and MPs in the governing party by now, as they are now being driven to live in fear of their own colleagues unrecognizable in face, sources revealed. This has come to a point in which the fate of MP Ranjan Ramanayake does not matter anymore, but the governing figures would have to fear for their own existence amidst the exposure.
